Oxynol-S
The treatment of contaminated waters is as diverse and complicated as the operations from which it comes.
Various treatment technologies are developed to treat wastewater efficiently so that treated water when discharged will have limited impact on the environment.
In spite of various efficient technologies available, problems still persist as none these technologies are PERFECT.
The most common problems of waste water treatment are:
- Bulking: Due to excessive growth of Filamentous bacteria leading to poor settling.
- Foul Odour: Due to generation of foul gases like Hydrogen Sulphide
- Poor Efficiency of Biological Treatment Plants.: Due to high organic loading and presence of toxic compounds interfering with growth of bacteria.
- Limited Dissolved Oxygen: Due to poor aeration and quick removal of dissolved oxygen by biomass.
- Poor Settling: Due to heavy growth of filamentous bacteria and denitrifiers.
- Disinfection.: High bacteria and coliform number causing danger of contamination of environment
OXYNOL MALAYSIA developed after extensive research work an ideal, eco-friendly highly effective and efficient multi-component formulation OXYNOL-S based on HYDROGEN PEROXIDE and SILVER by a special process of mixing the two component.
The oxidizing agent Hydrogen Peroxide which is bound by the stabilizing agents and silver ions to form a complex solution ensures synergistic germicidal and powerful oxidizing action.
OXYNOL-S is colorless liquid miscible with water containing
50% H2O2 stabilised and complexed with cationic silver ion( 500ppm).
WHY OXYNOL-S for waste water treatment.
BECAUSE it is:
Powerful.
The main component of OXYNOL-S is H2O2 ,the most powerful oxidizers known stronger than several oxidizing agents. The formation of Hydroxyl radical in OXYNOL-S is accelerated by presence of Silver ion which ensures sustained oxidation of organic compounds and gives it advantage over H2O2.
Safe.
Protects the environment and free from the problems of gaseous release or chemical residues that are associated with other chemical oxidants.
Versatile.
OXYNOL-S find diverse and wide applications like it can inhibit microbial growth (as in the biofouling of water circuits) and encourage microbial growth (as in the bioremediation of contaminated groundwater and soils).
Selective.
OXYNOL-S can be selectively used for increasing dissolved oxygen to enhance reduction of COD,BOD in aeration tank, biofilters and improve settling in secondary settling tanks. OXYNOL-S selectively improves the overall efficiency of biological treatment plant.

MECHANISM OF GERMICIDAL ACTION.
- The main targets of both Hydrogen peroxide and silver present in the formulation are proteins, enzymes and nucleic acids.
- The anti microbial activity of H2O2 is due to breakdown of H2O2 to free hydroxyl radical (HO*). This free radical has strong oxidation potential and strong penetration power. The radical can attack membrane lipids, DNA, and other essential cell components and denature them.
- The presence of silver ion accelerates the decomposition of H2O2 to form strong oxidizing radical.
- The synergistic antimicrobial activity of both H2O2 and silver ion in OXYNOL-S is much more greater than H2O2and silver alone.
APPLICATIONS:
OXYNOL-S finds wide applications in sewage and industrial wastewater treatment.
Environmental Applications of OXYNOL-S.
OXYNOL-S applications span the range of possible media: air, water, wastewater, soils and sludge. Depending on the objective, OXYNOL-S may be used either alone or in combination with other processes to enhance their performance.
Odor control - Oxidizes hydrogen sulfide, mercaptan, ammonia, amines and aldehydes. H2O2 may be applied directly to aqueous wastes containing these odorants, or to wet scrubbers used to remove them from airstreams. If the odors are the result of biological activity, OXYNOL-S may instead be added as a preventative to eliminate the anoxic conditions which favor the generation of odors.
BOD/COD removal - Oxidizes both organic and inorganic pollutants which contribute to BOD and COD -- catalytic, H2O2 may be needed to oxidize the more resistant substances. H2O2 may also affect BOD/COD removal by enhancing the performance of other processes (see below).
Inorganic oxidation - Oxidizes cyanides, NOx/SOx, nitrites, hydrazine, carbonyl sulfide, and other reduced sulfur compounds mentioned above (odor/corrosion control).
Organic oxidation - Hydrolyzes formaldehyde, carbon disulfide, carbohydrates, organo-phosphorus and nitrogen compounds, and various water-soluble polymers; and (with catalysis) destroys phenols, BTEX pesticides, solvents, plasticizers, chelants, and virtually any other organic requiring treatment.
Toxicity reduction/Biodegradability improvement – OXYNOL-S oxidizes simpler to complex organics into smaller, less toxic and more biodegradable fragments.
Air Flotation - Releases evenly dispersed microbubbles which entrain emulsified fats, oils and greases to enhance their removal in air flotation units and grease traps.
Sludge Bulking.- Controls sludge bulking in Secondary settling tank due to filamentous bacteria. It breaks the filaments to smaller cells. Improves sludge settling in SST. Provides DO in both aeration tank and SST thus improving the overall efficiency.
Carbon adsorption - Enhances the adsorption of many pollutants while providing dissolved oxygen to support biologically-active carbon beds (improving removal efficiencies still further).
DOSAGE:
OXYNOL-S can be used in various dosages depending upon the application.
The dosage is calculated based on the system and the volume of wastewater to be treated.(Our technical team can assist to decide the dosage and applications.)
- 20-30ppm for increasing efficiency of bioreactor.
- 4-5ppm per suphide odour (1ppm of sulphide.)
- 5-10ppm for ammoniacal nitrogen.
- 20-30ppm for diinfection of treated wastewater.
- 3-5ppm for fumigation of air.
OXYNOL-S can be directly added to wastewater as a slug dose or continuously through dosing pump.

OXYNOL -S is available in various packing:
1kg, 5kg, 30kg and 50kg in HDPE containers.
STORAGE: store the product in room and away from sunlight.
